Lillie Truman Johnson Peterson

Lillie Truman Johnson Peterson, 89, went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 2, 2012. She was born in Sampson County, NC on November 9, 1922 to James C. Johnson and Lillie Belle Simmons Johnson. She graduated from Roseboro High School in 1939 and received her BS degree from East Carolina University in 1964. She taught elementary school in Wilmington, NC for 23 years. She was an active member of Sunset Park Baptist Church teaching Sunday School and helping in Women’s Mission Ministries. In 2007 she moved to Cary to be closer to family and became a member of First Baptist Church.

The focus of her life was her faith in God and devotion to her family. For the past 26 years, she gathered her family for a vacation at Ocean Isle. This tradition will continue and forever be known as “Grammy Pete’s” Beach. She was loved by many and made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Howard Peterson and daughter, Marilyn Rose Peterson.

She is survived by her sons, Graham H. Peterson, Jr. and wife, Darlyne, Richard C. Peterson and Julia Kenney; grandchildren, Patricia Peterson McCumbee, Julie Peterson Clemmons, Kelly Peterson Behan, Richard C. Peterson, Jr. and Bradley P. Thorne; and great grandchildren, Drew, Hannah, Sydney, Charlotte, Dylan and Graham.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. The family will receive friends following the service.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Peterson Family Cemetery in Garland, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Carolinas Chapter, 3101 Industrial Drive, Suite 210, Raleigh, NC 27609.
