He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Berentes; his beloved wife, Carlina Berentes; and his brother, Joe Berentes.
Louie is survived by his loving daughter, Mary; his son, Joe, and wife, Pam; his cherished granddaughter, Samantha; his step-granddaughter, Natalie Bagley, her husband, Scott, and their daughter Amelia; his sisters, Mary Haynes and Theresa Longo; and a host of other family members who will miss him dearly.
Louie was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and devoted more than 40 years of his life to working as a coal miner, primarily at U.S. Steel Number 9 Mines, where he served as an electrician. He was deeply respected for his work ethic and dedication.
A devoted father and grandfather, Louie never missed an opportunity to support his family. He coached Little League, attended every school and sporting event, and was always ready to help anyone in need however he could.
Louie loved West Virginia and rarely missed watching a WVU or Marshall football or basketball game. While living in Filbert, West Virginia, he faithfully attended mass at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and treasured spending time afterwards with family and friends at Hardee’s.
In 2000, Louie, his wife, and daughter moved to Cary, North Carolina, where he became a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
He found joy in the outdoors, working on his cars, and tending to his yard. Summers were spent outside from sunup to sundown. Above all, Louie loved being surrounded by family and cherished every family gathering.
Louie will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and service will live on in all who knew him.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton, WV on Monday, February 9th. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial following. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton.
