She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, John J. Stevenson; children John P. Stevenson (“JP”) and his wife Helen of Sinking Spring, PA, Kevin D. Stevenson and wife Suzanne of Mt. Penn, PA, Dr. James P. Stevenson and wife Patricia of Moorestown, NJ, and Mary Anne Lutz and husband Steven of Morrisville, NC. Her greatest legacy is her ten treasured grandchildren; Patrick, Matthew, Benjamin, John, James, Meredith, Andrew, Emily, Eric, and Olivia. She is also survived by a brother Philip R. Fierro (“Skip”), husband of Judy, of Littleton, CO, as well as nine nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Pat.
Pat was born on April 15, 1935 in Reading, PA to hard-working Italian-American parents Philip and Mary(Capozzi) Fierro. She was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School and received her R.N. degree from the Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. Pat’s nursing degree was emblematic of her lifelong desire to do things for others.
Besides her family and friends, Pat had many loves and interests including music and the arts, literature, golf, tennis, matches with her local bridge club, travel, the University of Notre Dame, and cooking. Oh how she could cook! She was especially proud of her Italian heritage with all of its unique aspects and traditions, and instilled that sense of “roots” into her children. Most symbolic of this were Sunday night family dinner gatherings at her parents’ house in Pennside. Boiling pasta was tended to meticulously, the conversation was always lively, and most importantly her family was together. She was also adept at sending thoughtful notes to others in her beautiful handwriting; she had a knack for putting just the right words on paper.
Pat was a gracious hostess and as part of family-owned Berkshire Travel Agency loved to lead groups on travels to various exotic locations with her husband John. People traveling with her came home not only with memories of their journey but also with a new friend. Everyone who knew and met Pat felt the same way about her - they loved her.
A memorial mass and celebration of Pat’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 21st, 2011 at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, where she was a longtime parishioner. A reception will immediately follow. Monsignor James Treston will be presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota, FL at www.mote.org. Pat was never happier than when spending a day at Mote Marine with her grandchildren.
