

Michael was the loving son of immigrant parents Luigi and Rosalena (Picciano) Iannone who came to the United States from Campochiaro, Campobasso, Italy.
Mike, proud of his Italian heritage, grew up in Endicott, NY. His childhood stories of the Northside of Endicott forever a part of us.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, sons Louis Paul and Paul Michael, Thomas Havel who was like a son, goddaughter and niece Lisa Iannone, his brother Anthony (Angeline) Iannone with whom he shared a deep admiration and bond, his sister-in-law Madeleine Iannone, his father-in-law and mother in-law, Paul and Mildred Balles and his beloved granddogs Prince and Shakespeare.
Survived by his devoted wife Yvonne of 63 years, daughter Maria and her husband Patrick Evans, who Mike loved as a son, his brother Eugene Iannone who always looked out for Mike, together Gene and Mike had the greatest blessing of growing old together, Tony and Angie’s daughters, nieces Rosolina and Joseph Guccia, Louise Iannone-Morgan and Jeffrey Morgan and their families.
Michael was also Uncle Mike to Yvonne’s many nieces and nephews recalling fondly family gatherings with the Balles clan.
A graduate of Union-Endicott High School Class of 1952, the State University of New York at Oneonta, where Mike earned his B.S. and M.S. Degrees and played on the school’s first soccer team.
Teaching was Mike’s passion. He was a Mathematics Teacher and Department Chair for the Johnson City School District in Johnson City, NY for 34 years. He also was an adjunct instructor at SUNY Broome in Binghamton, NY for 40 years. Even in his final days he was encouraging those caring for him to “take Math and don’t be afraid of it. It is never too late to learn something new.”
Mike and Vonnie spent many winters in Port St. Lucie, FL their home away from home where in retirement new adventures awaited them. Together they enjoyed the sun and surf and time with family and friends. Grateful to our dear friend Paul Kapp and husband Ray for that first invitation to the Treasure Coast. You gave us all such wonderful memories.
Mike leaves behind neighbors on Smith Drive who were like family, cousins here and in Montreal, and lifelong friends in Endicott.
On behalf of Mike and his family a sincere and heartfelt thank you to
all the caregivers, physical, speech and occupational therapists at Brookdale (in NC & NY) who were among his greatest supporters as his Parkinson’s disease progressed and to Transitions LifeCare and Right at Home who extended such loving care to all of us. Grateful to our Endicott friends, Marijo for all the delicious dinners, Melanie for the weekly grocery delivery, Scott, Lisa and Tom for being a phone call away day or night. Mike thought so much of all of you.
Memorial Donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
