

Murray Harold Fogel, born June 14, 1921, died on June 28, 2013 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 92. He was a kind, caring, giving man. A person of honesty and integrity. His trademark later in life was telling lots of jokes, leaving many laughing along the way. He attributed his longevity to his devotion to daily exercise, as well as a strong family support group.
Murray studied accounting at City College of New York. He then served in the Second World War, as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and managed to survive a kamikaze attack on his ship, in the South Pacific. Following the war, Murray returned to New York and worked in various positions as an Accountant, Office Manager, and Assistant Comptroller. He retired as the Chief Accountant for the Wantagh School District on Long Island, New York.
Murray was a lifelong learner, taking college courses at Nassau Community College on Long Island, NY during his retirement years. He and his wife were members of a bowling league, cut a mean jitterbug, and often won prizes at costume parties. Through different time periods, he enjoyed travel with his wife, his two children, and his granddaughter. He spent 56 years of his life in Franklin Square, Long Island, NY and then moved to Cary, NC becoming an avid Duke Blue Devil fan.
Murray was pre-deceased by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice. He leaves behind his son, Robert; daughter, Judy; daughter-in-law, Katherine Trexler; granddaughter, Sarah; brother, Jerry and wife, Shani of Israel; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Burial was held on June 30, 2013 at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery in Raleigh, NC. A Memorial Service will be held at Jordan Oaks Retirement Home located at 10820 Penny Road, Cary, NC on July 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
