Patricia, known as Patti to friends and family, joins “her Phil” in God’s loving care. She is survived by her daughter, Smithey Hashagen Wilson of Cary, dear son-in-law Kenneth Wilson and the songs in her heart, grandsons Hagen and Foster. Patti is also survived by her brother, Robert Smithey (Linda) of Sunrise Beach, MO, brother-in-law Robert Hashagen (Michele) of Shawnee Mission, KS and several special nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Mount St. Scholastica College, Patti spent 36 years as a first and second grade Catholic school teacher in Kansas, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Elementary education wasn’t just her career, it was truly her vocation. She remembered every student she had the opportunity to teach and loved sharing stories of her decades in the classroom. Through the years, Patti made life-long friends in each of the schools she called home. Once “Mrs. H.” retired from teaching, she continued her commitment to education through her work with Faith Formation and welcoming new members to the Church. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary and a proud St. Michael’s School grandparent.
Patti will be remembered and missed for her love of family, outgoing personality, warm smile, and, of course, her big, colorful eyeglasses.
The family asks that as you remember Patti in your thoughts and prayers, please also remember those individuals, healthcare workers and care givers that continue to fight and be impacted by the pandemic.
