

She was born December 31, 1935, in Rivesville, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Paul O. and Ruby E. Michael. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Michael, and her sister, Janice Bondy.
Ramona was a committed Christian and attended The Shepherd’s Church in Cary for several years. She graduated from Rivesville High School (WV) in 1953 and from the Fairmont State College School of Nursing (WV) as a Registered Nurse in 1956. She filled her home with piano music, the mouth-watering smells of home-cooked meals, and gracious hospitality for family and friends. Her other interests included singing in the church choir, volunteering, travel, crafts, and games with neighbors.
Over the years, Ramona worked as a hospital nurse, a stay-at-home mom, and an office nurse for surgeons in Schenectady, NY, and West Chester, PA.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rodney D. Shafer; two sons, Richard (Elizabeth) Shafer, of Wilmington, NC, and Randall (Sherry) Shafer, of Winterville, NC; a daughter, Robin (Doug) Morgan, of Apex, NC; five grandchildren: Thomas (Martha) Shafer, Daniel (Brenda) Shafer, Jonathan Morgan, Andrew Shafer, and Joseph Morgan; and three great-grandchildren: Aurora Shafer, Jesse Shafer, and Luke Shafer.
A service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22nd, at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A reception and receiving of friends will follow.
