

Sally Anne Greene Goodwyn of Cary, North Carolina formerly of Tarboro, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 8, 2021. She was a member of Howard Memorial Church in Tarboro for 39 years and Westwood Baptist Church of Cary for 18 years.
Sally was born on April, 2 1938 in Charlotte, North Carolina, daughter of the late Abner Gorforth Greene and Annie Faye “Gunny” Hunt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, the love of her life, George Almon Goodwyn, brother Jerry Greene, and her son Christopher Fountain Goodwyn. She is survived by her children, George Scott Goodwyn of Rocky Mount, Caroline Faye Goodwyn Overton of Raleigh, and Sally Anne Goodwyn Thomas of Cary, her six grandchildren, Patrick Goodwyn, Daniel Goodwyn, Gwyneth Thomas, Maryanne Thomas, Samantha Thomas, and Nathanael Overton, along with her great-grandson Grady Goodwyn. She attended college at St. Mary’s in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Sally was full of life, constantly involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandson. She loved the performing arts, having been in many community play productions in college and in Tarboro. Her favorite hobby was traveling the world with her husband George. She was also a great lover of animals, having cared for 6 dogs over the years and one special beloved cat, Georgia, her friend for over 18 years. Sally was always free with a smile and a word of encouragement to whom ever she came in contact. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. To Sally: a life well lived.
A memorial service celebrating Sally’s life with be held Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 3pm at Westwood Baptist Church in Cary with visitation preceding at 2pm at the church. Sally will be interred beside her husband on Monday November 15, 2021 at 11am at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
