

Sandy was born on June 18, 1945 in Nashville, Tennessee. Her parents were Robert Bernal and Betty C. Lappin on Highcrest Drive in Nashville. She graduated from Antioch High School, Nashville in 1963. She attended nursing school for one year at General Hospital School of Nursing in Nashville. In 1969, she graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tenn., where she majored in history. She worked for AT&T and BellSouth in Columbia, then Nashville for 35 years before retiring in 2004. She graduated from I.T.T. School of Design in Nashville with a degree in photo design and was salutatorian in 2005.
Ms. Lappin was baptized into Christ at Bell Road Church of Christ in 1989 and continued to be active at the Perry Heights Church of Christ until she moved to Cary, NC in 2008. She was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Cary, NC with her family.
Her interests included weekly Bible study, art, photography, bird study, and working puzzles. She won a top award in a juried Art Show in 2009 in Raleigh, NC as part of the Junior Women’s Club Celebration. She enjoyed art classes at the Jordan Hill Art Center in Cary, NC.
Ms. Lappin is survived by her brother, William D. Lappin and wife Cindy and nephew Joseph W. Lappin, of Cary, NC; nephew Criswell Robert Lappin and wife Megan, and their sons, Jack and Finn, all of Brooklyn, NY; cousins, Lynda Hall and husband Dave, of Columbia, TN, B.V. Lawson, of Nashville and Jerry Lawson and wife Jackie, of Nolensville, TN, the late Gary Childress and wife Edyth, of Greenbrier, TN, Mike Goolsby and wife Sylvia, of Logan, Utah and James Robert Childress, of Gainesboro, TN.
Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7-9 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, with inurnment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum.
