I just learned in the last few minutes of Spurgeon’s passing. I am so sad to hear this news. He was such a wonderful person—always so gracious, positive, and jovial. He was always so kind and warm to me—always. And what an amazing husband and father he was! I cannot begin to fathom the depth of your grief and sense of loss. I know the service was filled with love from all of you. I truly would have been there had I known. All my love to all of you! I will pray for your memories to bring you comfort and peace. I am sorry to hear of Spurgeon’s passing. I will always remember the times I got to work with him. I will always cherish the times he was willing to share his thoughts and opinions with me.
My sympathies are extended to the family during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I started my career at CP&L in the Transmission department in 1999, and Spurgeon was one of the first Distribution engineers I met. He was extremely knowledgeable and equally patient and taught me as a civil engineer all about substation peak loads, co-incident loads, and non-coincident loads, etc., a foreign language to a civil/structures engineer like me. But he was a wolfpacker and so was I, so we hit it off pretty good lamenting NC State sports together, especially basketball, lol. He is one of the reasons I later considered leaving the transmission dept for distribution, to learn more about the electrical power grid he spoke so passionately about. I’m no longer at Duke Energy, but have grown to love the industry and still work supporting Duke, and enjoy the people in this field and the community they serve just like Spurgeon, and I’m grateful for some of his time to tutor me when I was a “newbie”! Rest in Peace.

It is with much sadness that I was made aware of the loss of a very dear servant of our Lord. All of my remembrances of Spurgeon are of the many times I watched his gentle way with children in the church ( mine included). What a great example he always was to all. He serviced in many positions of leadership in the church. He was a strong advocate for doing the work of Christ whenever he saw the need. 
Along with all that knew him , he will continue to be in our hearts to be remembered as our brother in the Lord. May the Lord be with his precious family and may God’s comfort be with them.

Sorry for your loss. Will be praying for all of you.  Spurgeon was a good friend and coworker.

Stunned and deeply saddened by the news of  Spurgeon Cooke's death on Saturday. Rhea and I met him and his family shortly after moving to Cary and discovered that he grew up close to where I grew up in Burke County. Of course, we were friends at FBC, Cary, for a number of years.  To his dear family please know of our love and prayers as you mourn this loss.  May the Heavenly Father embrace you in His loving arms to bring comfort, encouragement, and strength both now and in the future!

What a great man! Spurgeon and I taught four-year-olds in Sunday School for a while—that was a most fulfilling time. The children loved him. Jim Baker
