Stuart Edward Stern, age 91, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away May 6, 2025.
Stuart was born in New York City, New York, in 1933 to Albert and Minna Stern. Upon graduating from high school, Stuart joined the Air Force, where he served for six years. While in Biloxi, Mississippi, he met Jane Elizabeth Urquhart; they married and remained married for 64 years.
Upon leaving the Air Force, Stuart attended college and graduated from Purdue University with honors. After working for Magnavox, Stuart worked for IBM as an Electrical Engineer for 38 years. Stuart’s job required him to travel a lot and often included International Travel.
Stuart enjoyed jazz music and, upon retiring, hosted a Big Band/Jazz show as a volunteer DJ on the Shaw Radio Station (WSHA). Stuart looked forward to the annual weekly family vacation at the North Carolina shore. After Jane’s death, Stuart moved to Preston Pointe, where he made many friends and started a small acting group that performed short skits for the residents.
Stuart was preceded in death by his father, Albert Stern; his mother, Minna Stern Migatz; his stepfather, Lu Migatz; and his brother, Melvin Stern.
Stuart is survived by his oldest son, William Stern, his wife, Teresa Stern and one daughter, Elizabeth Stern; his youngest son, Steven Stern, his wife, Ellen Stern, and one son, Jason Stern and Jason’s fiancé, Megan Schutt; Melvin’s daughter, Cheryl Stern Clark (recently deceased) and her husband, Kevin Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be considered to: The American Heart Association, The American Lung Association, or The V-Foundation for Cancer Research.
A memorial service for Stuart will be held Friday, May 16, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
