June 29, 1939- June 10, 2011
Cary
Thomas McGrath, formerly of Louisburg, N.C., passed away at the age of 71, on Friday, June 10th in Cary, N.C. "Tommy" was born on June 29, 1939 in Paisley, Scotland. He moved to the United States in 1963 and began working in Syracuse, N.Y. as a window cleaner.
In 1988 Tom moved to North Carolina to begin a new adventure with his sons as co-owner of a window washing company. He retired in 1999 after spending 11 years helping to build the family business- an achievement he took tremendous pride in.
Tom's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Jeanie, also of Paisley, Scotland; his four sons, John McGrath and wife Zulma of Cary, Thomas McGrath and wife Elda of Cary, Mark McGrath and wife Nancy of Cary, Gary McGrath and wife Chongsuk of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; the "wee three" great-grandchildren; brothers, John and James McGrath of the U.K.; and sister, Josephine Keyes of Syracuse, N.Y.
Tom enjoyed golfing, boating and spending time with friends and family on Lake Royal in Louisburg. He loved the Celtic football team and was the kind of man who never met a stranger. His friendly blue eyes could light up the room and his dry sense of humor was sure to bring a laugh at every McGrath clan gathering.
The family has arranged for viewing to be held on Tuesday, June 14th, from 7PM-9PM, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road in Cary, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15th, at 11AM, St. Andrew's Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road, Apex, North Carolina.
