Tripurasundari Ramesh was born on August 4, 1970 in Chennai, India and passed away on December 28, 2020 in Cary, NC. She will be remembered by those close to her for her talent in music, tenacity, and passion for innovation.
Tripura was the first girl in her generation in the family in India to secure undergraduate admission in Engineering. In her undergraduate years at Government College of Technology in Coimbatore, India, she was known for being a top student in Computer Science as well as winning numerous awards for her singing in inter-collegiate competitions. A hard-working student, she received an M.S. in Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University and worked in microarchitecture for many years. Though her training was in computer hardware, she had a will and openness to learn new things. In the last decade, she operated an art magazine, explored a venture to use music as therapy, and worked in biotechnology and drug delivery. Whenever she explored a new area, she fully immersed herself in the field, sought expert advice, and strove to make a difference.
She was married to Rajaram Ramesh, who passed away in 2009. They were known for their presence in the Indian music community. She was an accomplished vocalist of Carnatic music, known for her rich, booming voice. She taught Carnatic music to kids, sang extensively in community events in the Triangle area, and even briefly performed professionally in India.
She was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and bravely faced chemo, surgery, and radiation. While she was a private person, she was generous to her friends, always checking in and bringing flowers and goodies.
She is survived by her daughter, Indu, brother, Ramani, sister, Veda, and father, S.S. Yegnanarayanan, and will be remembered by those who had the fortune to witness her love and passion.
