Ms. Virginia Dare Jones, a beloved member of the Cary, North Carolina community, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on August 11, 1924, in Cary, she remained a lifelong resident of the town she cherished.
Virginia was a proud graduate of Cary Elementary and Cary High School, Class of 1942. She dedicated her career to public service as a lifelong state employee. She devoted herself to the care and well-being of others. Her commitment to service extended far beyond her professional life, as she was deeply involved in her church and community.
A lifelong and active member of First United Methodist Church of Cary, Virginia was an integral part of its congregation. She was a member of the Ellis Bland and Trinity Sunday School classes and a founding member of the Wesleyan Circle of the United Methodist Women. Over the years, she served on countless committees and played an integral role in the church’s annual fair booth, first as a biscuit maker and later as a biscuit-making instructor.
She served on the FUMC memorial committee ensuring that communications were thoughtfully given to all that contributed to the church in memory of others. were recognized and shared gratitude with each individual. Her dedication to faith and service inspired generations of women within her church and beyond.
Virginia’s passion for helping others extended into her volunteer work. Until age 93, she was a bi-weekly volunteer for Dorcas Ministries, where she continued to serve those in need with kindness and determination. She was known for her unwavering commitment to solving problems and speaking truthfully while always being willing to contribute to meaningful solutions.
Beyond her service, Virginia found joy in bowling and participated in league play and earned numerous medals in the North Carolina Senior Olympics. She was a devoted supporter of her family, embracing her role as "Aunt Jenny" " to those who loved her most. Though she never married, she was a cherished bonus mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Mae Pleasants Jones and Garland H. Jones; her siblings Alice Jones Dean, Doris Jones Daniels, Garland H. Jones, and Betty Mae Jones; as well as her niece Jane Jones Honeycutt and nephew Jack Milton Daniels (Nanette Daniels).
She is survived by her nieces Patricia Jones (Susan Marschalk) and Virginia Ruth Dean; nephews Donald Daniels (Angela Daniels) and Joseph Daniels (Sheila Daniels); great-nieces Anne Bollman (William Bollman) and Kara Daniels Hand (Cody Hand); great-nephews Dallas Daniels, Michael Daniels, Matthew Daniels (Jordan Daniels), and Brandon Honeycutt (Erin Honeycutt); great-great-nieces Madison Bollman, Emmie Hand, Maryn Hand, and Paisley Daniels; great-great-nephew Cameron Jones (Yakira Carter); and great-great-great-nephew Kamden Jones.
Visitation and Service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025. Visitation with light snacks will be at 12:30 PM and funeral service at 2:00 PM both at The First United Methodist Church Cary, located at 117 South Academy Street in Cary, North Carolina. Virginia will be interred at the Hillcrest Cemetery in a private burial immediately following the service.
Virginia Dare "Jenny" Jones lived a life defined by faith, service, and love for her community. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched with her generosity and unwavering dedication.
