He was born in Norfolk, VA on August 6th, 1950 to Warren Sr. and Lois Croom. He has a younger sister, Janet Neinhouse who he was close with. Jim attended West Jefferson High School before going to Louisiana Tech, the University of Missouri, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne before he moved to North Carolina with his wife, Mary Jo, to work in the Animal Science and then Poultry Science departments at North Carolina State University as a researcher. He loved doing research in the lab and had six drug patents. He also taught a course to undergrad/grad students both in-person and online and used to host office hours, so if any of his students needed him, he’d be there to help or lend an ear.
Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, great brother, and cherished friend. His greatest joy in life was his family, whom he loved deeply, and supported them without measure. We couldn’t have asked for a better parent, and will miss Jim every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jo Croom, his Dad, Warren James Croom Sr., his daughter, Ashley Croom.
Jim is survived by his children, Warren Croom III, and Blythe (Jenni) Croom, his sister Janet (Drew) Nienhouse, his brother-in-law, Paul Weitz, sister-in-law, Virginia (Tom) Woods, his mom, Lois Croom, and many cousins, aunts, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday April 22nd, at Raleigh Memorial Park and it will be a private service.
Jim brought a lot of knowledge, happiness, and love to all who knew him. He loved to talk and we will miss his conversations dearly. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and will be deeply missed.
