Bill “Vasili” Xenakis was born on the island of Ikaria Greece on Christmas Day 1939. He immigrated to the United States with his parents, Angelos and Eva, at a very young age and was raised in the city of Boston. He was the oldest of three, including his sister Anna and brother George. Bill attended high school at Boston Latin and college at Boston University. Upon graduation he was commissioned an officer in the Army and would go on to serve his country for 26 years including two tours in Vietnam and countless assignments within the intelligence community.
The most significant life event, other than the Red Sox finally winning the world series in 2004, was meeting the love of his life, Frances Wyand. They would marry in 1964 and continue with their love affair for 60 years. They raised four children; Evan, Michael, Angela and Anne Marie, and were beloved grandparents to seven grandkids. Throughout their marriage they showered each other with love and set an example for their children and friends. While in the Army, Bill obtained a Masters and PhD in education from the University of Southern California. He leveraged his doctorate in his second career in education as a university administrator and professor.
He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather (Papouli), brother and friend. He was a true servant of God and led a life that honored his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was soft-spoken (except during Boston sporting events), humble, funny, generous and selfless. He loved to cook, loved to read, loved to act, and loved to chew on cigars. He was a storyteller whose laugh was infectious and smile could light up a room. The world was a better place because he was in it and all of us better people because of him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Angelos and Eva. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances; son Evan and three kids, Matlin, Delaney and Christian; son Michael and his wife Yianna and their two children, William and Loucas; daughter Angela; daughter Anne Marie and her husband Jamie and their two children, Fiona and Lliam; sister Anna; and, brother George.
