

Charlie was born February 5, 1952, in Sacaton, Arizona, to Leona Carlyle-Kakar and Avery Lewis.
Charlie was a graduate of Maricopa High School, where he excelled in sports and academics. He was selected to Boy’s State and was the Salutatorian for his class of 1970.
Charlie grew up in the Ak-Chin Indian Community, where he worked for Vekol Commissary as a butcher. He was instrumental in establishing the Ak-Chin Him-Dak Eco Museum, as its first project director/coordinator. He also sat on numerous boards/committees for the Community, including over 20 years with the Ak-Chin Community Energy Services Board.
Charlie loved watching all sports and was a true ASU fan. He also loved playing pool and being challenged with Jeopardy. He was a loving father, papa, brother and “Mama’s Boy” who will always be remembered for his intellect, charm and humor.
Charlie is survived by his children; Richard, Carlton and Sarah Carlyle of Ak-Chin, Phillip Osife and Jacob Osife-Carlyle of Gila River, siblings; Nancy and Carla Carlyle, Raychel Peters, Imelda Ocano, Frances Kakar, Denise Goins, Delsey Kinnard, Joseph Kakar, Thomas Kakar, Ann Marie Antone, Delita Nunez, Anita Zapata, Sharon Lewis, Jeremy Lewis and Donna Windrider-Byrd; grandchildren, godchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons; Tyrone and Charles Isaac Carlyle, and siblings; Teresa Delsi, JoAnn Huskey, Gregory Kakar, Cecilia Davis, Drake Lewis and Malcolm Johnson.
Charlie’s services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, 4pm at St. Francis of Assisi, 16657 N. Church St., Maricopa, Arizona 85139. Burial, Saturday, October 11, 2025, 8am, at Ak-Chin Cemetery.
