My favorite memories of my Dad will always be that of his loving, unselfish, joyful moments with all family members. He was the ultimate father, sowing generosity and godly actions along the way. In fact, he liked to sow seeds along the stretch of I-10 between Casa Grande and Chandler by giving us (kids at the time) a packet of wildflower seeds to toss out the car window each time we went “up to Phoenix” for shopping or a fun family movie. So, the next time you see wildflowers in full bloom as you drive along that part of the Interstate, say a prayer of thanks for my Dad… as, most likely, they are the result of his thoughtfulness; one of the many ways that his love for this land, his heritage, and his family continues to multiply in the most beautiful sense.

Not only did my Dad teach at Camelback High School in Phoenix (1960-1963), Casa Grande Union High School (1963-1993), as well as Santa Rosa Boarding School and CCA Correctional Facility after retirement, he worked at keeping the family business (Sunset Court) running & in proper maintenance. He was always assisting his mother (Gertrude Osborne… my “Grammy”) with the store, cabins, and fuel station. Not to mention, keeping Sunset Court Mobile Home Park a family-friendly, safe, clean & reputable environment for many tenants over the course of 40 years. Some days, he would come home from 8 hours of teaching to round-out the day with maintaining the mobile park and helping Grammy close up the store/gas station each night… but we (as kids) would typically be right there with him, no matter what.

Being the daughter of a teacher had its perks (he was home with family over the long summer break, prioritized vacations & family trips during the major holidays, was always free on the weekends, & had no late-night hours). But what he taught me & my siblings about life, God, honesty, hard work & loving others was the most precious and valuable of all “teaching moments” in our life with him.

Even though his final days were difficult, he was adamant about seeing those he loved. My daughters enjoyed his humor and quick wit and the three of them always made life fun for each other, no matter the circumstances.

“Papa” was always supportive of his grandchildren… he attended both of my daughters’ school and extracurricular events throughout their childhood. Being involved in their lives was of upmost importance to him.
