

Melvin Vincent Messina, a faithful and beloved man, passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on August 17, 1936, in Collinsville, Illinois, Melvin was the devoted son of Charles and Mildred (Body) Messina.
Melvin had a distinguished career, retiring after 20 years of service in the Navy. A Vietnam veteran, he had the honor of being part of the pre-commissioned crew of the CV 67 J.F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier. His hard-working nature and wise counsel were evident throughout his military service and beyond.
He was married to Shirley Ann Lowrie and together they created a loving family. Melvin was the proud father of six children: Gerald (Bobby Jo), Steven, Cindy Greenfield (Doug), Jennifer Messina, Daniel (Penni), and Patricia Messina. His legacy includes 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Melvin was deeply involved in his community and cherished the many special friendships formed through his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his six siblings, and his son Gerald. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor his memory.
A graveside service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ, on February 12, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Melvin's devoted and loving presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
