

Darlene Joyce Scribner died peacefully on April 5th, 2024, in Altamonte Spring, Florida. She is survived by her husband Herbert Scribner, daughter Christina McCowan, son Paul Scribner, her sister Fran Tarantino-Zindash, her brother Joe Tarantino, her grandchildren Jackson and Grace McCowan as well as numerous beloved family and friends. Preceding her in death was her parents, Vincent Joseph Tarantino and Philomena Dolores Camacho.
Darlene was born November 5th, 1955 in Ohio. She was a second generation Italian American. Her mother and family immigrated from Madonna, Italy. She left Ohio for Florida to study education at the University of South Florida. She met her fun-loving husband Herbert Scribner Jr. at a waterside bar named Shooters in Orlando. They married in April of 1981 and built their home in Apopka, Florida. She worked as a SLD math and science teacher at Milwee Middle School in Longwood for 30 years. She left a lasting impact on her students encouraging them to work hard and reach for their dreams.
Darlene was very active with the Annunciation Catholic Church, where her children were baptized and confirmed and where she sang in the choir as an alto. She passed away in Altamonte Springs Advent Health Hospice right across the street from the church where she professed her faith.
Darlene was loved by all for her caring spirit, love of music and family, and her beautiful full-faced smile. She will be greatly missed. She will be buried at All Faiths Memorial Park in Casselberry, FL in the same row as her mother Philomena Tarantino, and near Herbert Frank Scribner Sr. her father in-law, and Lorraine Swanson, her mother in-law.
Internment will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at All Faiths Memorial Park at 1390 Park Drive Casselberry, FL 32707. The first Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered July 28th, 2024, at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Orlando, FL. The second Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered at her church of worship on February 16th, 2025, at 10:00 am at Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Darlene’s name to her church, Annunciation Catholic Church located at 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714; 407-869-9472.
