Carolyn was born on May 21, 1927, on the day Lindberg landed the Spirit of St. Louis outside Paris, France. She was raised during the Great Depression on a farm in New Jersey by Ruth and Theodore Van Scoyoc (vet WWI).
She married Carl Strunk (vet WWII) August 1949. She is a published author of children's stories and Christian education. While working on a story, she met James Michener at the Denver Public Library (1300 Broadway), while he was researching his book Centennial. After their talk, he added a German character name Strunk!
Her hobbies include needlework, quilting, raising orchids, cooking, singing in the choir and dancing. She has lived in New Jersey, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, and South Dakota.
Carolyn is survived by her first son, William and his wife Vicki along with their two children Sarah and Stephen. Her youngest son Mark and his wife Chris along with their daughter Suzanna.
