Dave graduated from Littleton High School in 1958 and earned a full scholarship to UNC in Greeley to be a Music Teacher. Dave (against his parent’s wishes) decided instead to play in a band to raise money for college and go to the Colorado School of Mines to be a geologist. Part of the curriculum required was a surveying class, which led him to work for a surveyor in Castle Rock. In 1966 he got his license as a professional land surveyor and started his own business. Dave always said his business was a success because he was in the right place at the right time.
Dave was the Douglas County surveyor for over 20 years until term limits were imposed. He had a couple crews doing surveys on snowmobiles, he had a crew in Hawaii for 2 months surveying and he did all the construction surveying for Chatfield Reservoir. The police department reached out with a few requests too. He was asked to take measurements on a bullet hole in the fence and figure out the range of a dog’s leash that mauled a little boy. The hardest times for him personally were when he was forced to lay people off. He took great pride in keeping the company small so that this only happened 2 times in 56 years.
As a teenager Dave worked at a gas station in Castle Rock that his dad owned. While at work one day, Lareen (Rene) Liggett caught his eye, and in 1959 they married. She was the love of his life. Dave enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, snowmobiling, golfing, and bowling with the family and many friends. In later years Dave and Rene lived in the motorhome for at least 16 weeks out of each year missing just a few states. They would see many extended family members and friends that either moved away or wintered in the same areas they did.
He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, Laura and Ben Archer, his brother Benny Archer, his sister Muriel Madison.
They had three children, Kevin (and Linda), Mike, and Kari (and Chris Sorah), eight grandchildren, Nikki (and Matt Newberg), Megan (and Beau Bulmer) and Bryan Archer, Stephanie Gray and Brandon Gray, Myrissa (and Greg Ham), Nicolas Sorah and Triston Sorah. Seven great-grandchildren, KayLynn Hatfield, AbiLynn and Preston Newberg, Caden and Bailey Bulmer, Rylie, and Lydia Ham.
In lieu of flowers, the Archer family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
