It has been hard for me to write this because we were just together at our 40th High School reunion last October. We had so many good talks and laughs together, just like we did at Bernards High.  What an incredibly warm and good friend you were to me and so many others Wally. Thank you for all of the good times we had and thank you for making such a diffence in my life that I will treasure forever. Your memory will always live on. We were a tight group of friends who discovered what it meant to be really close.  It all started in Arnett Hall at CU and lead to adventures that covered many states including my home in IL as well as many fond memories in Denver.  We all miss you my friend and our prayers are with you.

One of the most kind-hearted people I have ever known, you will be missed, Doug. See you on the other side.

I have many fond memories of Doug dating back to our Kindergarten days in Bernardsville. I have many pictures of us as children at school functions and friend's parties. Doug always had a smile and a kind word for others. He had an easy way about him that made him very approachable and well liked. He was a large presence in the halls of Bernards High. I met Wally while attending CU in Boulder.  He was one of a group of tight knit friends that spent a lot of time together from which we all have wonderful memories.  From great times at "SIR B West" to an unforgettable trip from Boulder to San Francisco, LA and many places in between.  He loved the hills in San Francisco, and we will never forget the visit to "Uncle's House" in Hollywood when we met "Trapper" swimming in his pool.  We saw each other from time to time over the years, often getting together with the old college buddies.  On one such visit when I had my young son with me, a few of us attended a Rockies Game and Wally entertained him the entire day.  My son thought I had pretty cool friends.  May you rest in peace old friend, you will be missed.

Great laughter, great memories, great friend, Wally!  Traveling was fun - the bed race at College Daze, visiting the Grand Canyon, "Unca" in LA, stopping over in Vegas and other places with Guertie, your coming to Springfield IL, and you showing off Bville to me.  And who can forget the music you enjoyed so much, from Good Rats on the Hill in Boulder to J Geils Band with RP in Chicago?  We shared a lot and you'll never be forgotten, by me or anyone who knew you and your energy and love of fun.  All good thoughts to your family.

Thinking of my cousin Dee, is like time traveling back to my childhood. He was there at every Capice family gathering. There he is devising complex military maneuvers with his little green army men-those guys were everywhere!  There we are riding the waves, “The Big Bombers,” at Manasquan in the summertime. I remember the times he and his friends would recruit me and Jill to play football in the back yard.  I would literally run for my life when I got the ball for fear of being trounced. It was terrifying to hear, “I'm gonna FOLD you!” coming from behind us.  But, secretly, we were happy to be invited to participate.  Dee was a good athlete and we loved to watch him and his classmates play football at BHS.  As adults, time, distance and circumstances drew us apart, but when I saw him last, he still had his easy smile and his fun sense of humor. He could do great impersonations of people. I like to imagine that he is at peace now and rejoined with all the family members who have gone before him.  There he is sitting at a table with Uncle Doug and Uncle Phil enjoying a nice Italian meal made by Grams. Rest in Peace, Dee.

I first met Doug when we played Pop Warner football together on Bulldogs in 1966. My best memories are summers hanging out at the B'ville pool, getting a little R&R prior to the dreaded "triple sessions". Last Sunday I spoke with a friend who was a freshman when Doug was a senior captain on the football team. He had nothing but praise for how comfortable Doug made him feel in what could be a very intimidating environment...you couldn't help but like Doug. We shared alot that will bond us all forever. We all will miss you #61. When you see #20 you guys can start getting things ready for when we huddle up one last time.

I knew Doug (Wally) from the old days at CU in Boulder.  He was a wonderful friend in our great group of friends.  Had many good times with him and he will be missed.  He was always ready with a witty insight and he had the distinctive knack of always coming up with nicknames for persons and places.  My own nickname (Stormy) was a Wally creation.  Through the years I got to see him, although not with the frequency of the collage days.  I remember one wonderful afternoon with him in NYC, where he worked at the Commodity Exchange.  He showed me around "his" lower Manhattan and told me many interesting stories about the places and people.

It is impossible for me to remember all the great times Wally and I (and many others) shared as teenagers. Jill and I are heart broken by his passing and hope he is in a better place. He may be gone but will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully my friend.

He had a way of getting the girls to turn their eyes when he entered the classroom. He must have been their idea of a dream date.i only knew Doug from high school, and he always had a smile on his face, and he had a personality so warm and strong, he was, in his own way, a force to be reckoned with. Always funny, always able to take the center of attention, never without something to make people smile. I remember him from Cub Scouts, and that he was a top football player. To look at him and think back of him at Bernards High School, he was a big part of the life there. We can miss him now that he is gone, but his memories in us will be strong as are our wishes for his eternal rest. Love to Doug, love to all who knew him. Goodbye for now.

Even though we did not "hang" together in high school, it was good to see Doug (and everyone else) at our 40th reunion.  Doug was, as always, animated, lively and full of stories and anecdotes.  He seem genuinely happy to be amongst his peeps from BHS.

Begin your entry here.We lovingly called him Dee, as did many who knew him. He had such an inquisitive mind -- always wondering "why" this or that was necessary, important or acceptable. The ins and outs of the stock market were of great interest, and he followed the daily flow of business on the DOW. We were pleased to provide an occassional homemade cherry pie for his pleasure--not sure he shared with Rosa. His spirit and kindness will be missed. God's Blessings to his family.

We have fond memories of Doug, and a friendship that goes back to our days at the Pine School - 1960 1st Grade. Doug was a very caring person. We would speak every few months and he always asked about each member of the family, from the "Aunties" to our kids, and even about our dog. We have a hard time thinking about a high school event that didn't involve Doug, from trips to the shore, high school proms and dances, and hanging out at Wally's house on the weekends. Whenever Doug was around it seemed he was always smiling - a very warm and sincere smile.  We had a nice conversation and some laughs at the BHS 40th class reunion - hard to imagine him not being with us for our 45th...Bob and I send our deepest sympathies to Doug's family and his closest friends. Doug was a good friend of mine for 45 years. Our Dad's worked for the same company and moved from state to state. Wally was always competitive on and off the field. He knew all about sports and would have made a great sports announcer. He was my roommate in college.  He had a memory like no one else. Even at the 40th reunion he could still remember teacher's little sayings, mimic, and sound just like them. We took many trips together and stayed in contact for those 45 years. I consider him a good and caring friend that I will never forget, and greatly miss.
