Eric is survived by his wife, Laura Littleton, his sons, Logan Jaynes, 26, Jackson Graham, 24, and daughter Sierra Grace, 19. Additionally, he leaves his parents, Ronald and LaVonne (Dorman) Carey of Edgecomb, Maine; brother, Morgan Carey, his wife, Danielle, and their two children, Oliva and Sawyer, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, on March 15, 1967, Eric graduated from Utah State University in 1990 with a degree in Computer Science Engineering. He went on to graduate from University of Phoenix in 1997 with a Masters in Business Administration. Eric began his career at CUSA and moved on to Fidelity Investments, both in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2000, he moved his family to Leesburg, Virginia and began working at VASTERA in Dulles, Virginia. He later transitioned to a position at Nextel/Sprint in Reston, Virginia. In 2014, he opened the Colorado office for SOLiD Technologies, Inc., and in 2016, Eric became one of the founding members of Predictive Technologies.
Eric’s passion for sports was evident in his many years of coaching boys basketball and baseball teams and girls softball and basketball teams. From 2001 - 2016, Eric coached a wide variety of teams including the boys’ Central Loudoun Basketball League, J.L. Simpson Middle School Basketball League, Central Loudoun Little League, and Babe Ruth Baseball League. Eric also coached the girls’ Central Loudoun Basketball League, Leesburg Girls Softball League, and Leesburg Revolution Fastpitch Softball. At the end of his coaching career, he was the Assistant Coach for Adrenaline Fastpitch, Batbusters, and the Assistant JV Coach for the Castle View High School Girls Softball Team. Eric’s dedication to the sport of baseball was evident during the ten years he served on the Central Loudoun Little League Board of Directors making countless contributions to every aspect of the sport.
It was during his time at Utah State University that he met the love of his life and best friend, Laura. They spent the last 28 years together raising their children. Family was everything to Eric and the center of his life. He never missed an athletic event, guitar concert, reptile show, or special event for any of the children.
When he wasn’t working or coaching, Eric’s love of nature, and endless reserve of energy was focused on one athletic adventure after another. From marathons to triathlons to mountain biking and hiking, he rarely slowed down. He had a rare talent for everything woodworking, gifting family and friends with beautiful bookshelves, tables, chairs, dressers, display cases, stools, and custom racks for snakes and reptiles.
Eric never missed an opportunity to travel and believed that these trips provided an education as important as anything learned within the classroom. His advice to his children was, “Travel as much as you can and learn as much as you can along the way”. His travels included every state in the United States except for three, international travel to Brazil, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as many islands including Grand Cayman, Martinique, Mexico, St. Croix, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, and Tortola just to name a few.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared in the future. A GoFundMe account has been created by friends of the family. These funds will be used for memorials in Eric’s name for the youth sports he loved.
