Ethan James Griffith, affectionately known to many as "Big E," passed away far too soon at the age of 19. Born on January 12, 2007, in Longview, Texas, Ethan spent most of his life in Castle Rock, Colorado - a community he permanently brightened with his vibrant energy and easygoing nature.
Ethan defined what it meant to live fully and fearlessly. Relentless and driven, he craved challenges, loved to win, and met every risk head-on. This fierce competitive spirit shone brightest on the baseball diamond at Castle View High School, where his exceptional ability as a pitcher earned him the Junior Varsity Sabercat Award in 2024. He carried that same dedication into the classroom, earning the AP Scholar with Distinction Award and graduating with Highest Honors in 2025.
Guided by a remarkable intellect, Ethan brought his immense talents to the Colorado School of Mines in the fall of 2025. There, he excelled as a Mechanical Engineering student with aspirations to obtain a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering.
Whether he was chasing his academic goals on campus or coming home to the people he loved, Ethan's presence filled the room. He sought the thrill of the open trail on dirt bikes with his father, brought the house alive with laughter during family game nights, and explored wild places with his best friends. An avid skier, he found pure joy living on the edge of the mountain's most demanding runs. Ethan also held a deep appreciation for music; he possessed a natural instinct for the drums, finding focus and expression in the rhythm.
Ethan leaves behind a family that loves him beyond measure. He is survived by his devoted parents, Kelly and Sean Griffith; his beloved sister, Keirra Griffith; grandfather, Alan Chenoweth; and grandparents, Deloris and Jerry Griffith. He also leaves behind his aunt and uncle, Karmen and Shannon Griffith; aunt, Michelle Griffith; aunt and uncle, Tara and Tony Ohrazda; cousins, Gracyn and Hudson Griffith; and a deeply bonded circle of close friends. Ethan joins his late grandmother, Linda Chenoweth, in eternal peace.
Ethan's quick wit and humor kept the vibe fun and playful, serving as a clever curtain for a tender and gentle giant. His legacy is defined by confidence, hard work, and unshakeable bravery in the face of any challenge. He will be fiercely missed.
