got her own wings on October 26th, 2021. Flossie was born July 17, 1937 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to
James Ambrose Smith and Margaret Hester Stahl Smith. She attended Little Flower Catholic School for
Girls, the largest all girl Catholic school in the world. She then worked for Bell Telephone before starting
a family. Flossie was a devoted Mother to her 4 sons, a loving sister to her 4 brothers and 2 sisters, and an
amazing Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Although not someone who wanted to be the center of attention, she was not averse to being the life of
the party. She was a gentle and loving soul, but strong willed and tough as nails to the very end. In fact,
during her hospice she would let the nurses know with a slash of her hand and an emphatic ‘No’ when
she no longer wanted them around. Her head nurse told me that she started using the same technique
with her kids and calls it the “Flo No”.
Despite many challenges, she lived and died on her terms, without complaining, and always concerned
for everyone else. That is why she insisted on not having a ceremony -She just wanted everyone to have a
drink for her. She leaves behind her 3 children - David Wayne (Joy Annette) Beaudoin, Robert James
(Renee Garcia) Beaudoin and Michael Joseph (Katherine Celeste) Beaudoin, 10 Grandchildren - David
Alexander, Michael Anthony, Loren Ashley, Richard Leroy III, Mackenzie Ann, Michal Ainsley, Nickolas
Adam, Addison Cooper, Baily Rain, Viola Roanan, and 4 Great Grandchildren – Decklyn Scott, Richard
Leroy IV, Luka Hayes, Rowan Cole. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Leroy, Jr. and her
sister Margaret McConaghy.
Following is a portion of a note written by my daughter in-law Chelsey.
I'll be singing Elvis to celebrate you, with a drink, and a good laugh until the end
The world lost an incredible woman this week. Mac’s grandmother, Flo, was the most adorable
lady I've ever met. She was so witty, and definitely a bad ass. It was so special to spend time with
someone like her. A humanitarian beyond her time, and so full of zest for the things she enjoyed.
She handled life with so much grace. I wish I had a tiny sliver of her strength. She was so kind, and
funny too. When I grow up, I want to be just like her. Her ripple is endless, and she made more of a
difference in this world than she would ever admit. I'm lucky to have the chance to love someone
who was influenced by her so deeply.
