Born on July 28, 1940 to Herbert and Clara Long, he was one of five children: Mildred, Joyce, Howard, Frederick, and Leonard. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A brother, an uncle, and a friend. He touched the lives of many during his time on earth. He was quick to share and always happy to help others.
Fred and his "beautiful bride" Donna Lee Warner were high school sweethearts and married for 62 years. They built a caring life together and raised a strong, flourishing family filled with love and laughter.
Fred is survived by his wife Donna W. Long, and his three children: Frederick R. (Patricia) Long; Robert M. (Harold “Skip” Bacon) Long; and Dawn L.(Steven) Schwanke. Fred was a proud grandfather to Frederick (Katherine); Robert (Allissa); Lauren (Cole); and Hope (Zach). He cherished his six great-grandchildren (Blake, Aria, Frederick, Ellie, Forest, and Dove), who brought him immense joy. He loved his large and growing extended family.
From an early age, Fred valued education and was also an Eagle Scout. He earned his Executive MBA degree from San Francisco University and was committed to lifelong learning. His career spanned several decades as a highly respected leader in the field of quality assurance. His accomplishments were exceptional including committee member for the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award, American Society for Quality director, ISO 9000 certifications for numerous companies, and corporate leadership roles with Sun Microsystems, Storage Technology Corp., Oracle, National Semiconductor, and others.
Fred traveled the world from China to Puerto Rico, the Netherlands, most of Western Europe, Canada, Japan, Ireland, and across the UK, with particularly fond memories of Edinburgh, Scotland. Fred loved traveling across the United States especially to visit the National Parks, Civil War battlefields, Alaska, and his beautiful Rocky Mountains.
Fred's intellect, endless curiosity, sense of humor, and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and respect that will continue to resonate through his family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on January 24, 2024 at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home in Castle Rock, Colorado, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hands of the Carpenter (https://www.handsofthecarpenter.org/) in memory of Frederick Carl Long.
Fred will always be remembered for his unwavering spirit and devotion to his family.
Rest in peace, Dad - We love you and will miss you always.
