With heavy hearts from his family, we announce the passing of George McConnell III, aka "Buck." Born and raised in Troy Ohio to George R. and Anna Lou McPherson-McConnell. Buck was a beloved husband, father, big brother & friend to many. George’s guidance, warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others, made him a very special man, someone who could always be counted on for a smile, a helping hand, and words of encouragement.
George spent most of his professional life with General Foods & General Mills, where he was known for his dedication, professionalism, and the genuine camaraderie he fostered with colleagues and clients. Upon retiring after 30+ years with General Mills Foodservice, and moving to Castle Rock, CO, he found a 'new job' as a school bus driver, with Douglas County transportation, he drove K-12 kids to school and back, every day for 10 years. The kids adored him, and parents appreciated the care and good humor he brought to the job and the camaraderie with his fellow bus drivers, good friends to this day.
Outside of work, George lived life to the fullest. He had a passion for golf & riding motorcycles, feeling the freedom of the open road. He travelled with a special group of friends covering the USA & Canada every summer. He enjoyed many years of golf, with friends and colleagues, always relishing both the competition and the company. And a true lover of great food, George never passed up an opportunity to share a delicious meal with family and friends.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy; his children, Alex and Megan McConnell, whom he shared with his former wife, Lucia; his sisters, Karen & (Tom) Brownell & Molli McConnell and her partner Dennis Duggan; along with a plethora of nieces and nephews; and his little lap partner, 11 year mini schnauzer, Max.
Buck will be remembered for his considerate nature, his generosity, and the countless ways he brightened the lives of those around him.
George’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know & love him from birth to his final days on Earth.
