Heide was born to parents Clarence and Ellen Smith on August 2, 1955 in Phoenix, AZ. She grew up an only child and graduated from Lakenheath High School in England. She attended both Northern Arizona and Arizona State University in search of a Psychology Degree.
In 1976, she married David De Camp, and the couple had three children. Heide’s life was devoted to her husband and her children, building and nurturing her family through all the years of her life.
Heide is survived by her husband David, her children Olivia and her husband Ronald Griffith, Jason and his wife Zoe Austin Boekelheide and Heather and her boyfriend Bjoern Altgassen, and her grandchildren Silas, Terran, Rebecca and Sebastian.
Heide’s wishes were to be cremated and joined with her husband’s ashes at the appropriate time, then both to be laid to rest in Santa Fe, NM. The family is grateful for the condolences, but wishes any donations be directed to Autism Speaks.
This is to you Heide
In 1972 you captured my heart with a smile that lit up my soul. As we grew together and fell in love I knew that I had found that one special person I was meant to be with. Now, 45 years later, with a life time of memories, you have gone. I am broken with grief and fear. Your physical body is no longer here with me. I’m selfish that way. But I have your spirit, I have your love, and I have all those memories. But most of all I have the comfort of the three children you birthed. You instilled the best of you into them, and it shows. So maybe I haven’t lost you. Maybe you’ve taken on a new presence, a new role, a new life. At least to me you will live on and on in the beautiful children you provided and in the memories you have blessed me with. To say I Love You is so inadequate. So, I will continue to carry your love, trust, and devotion in my heart until the end of time. Your love will lead me into the next chapter of my life, whatever and wherever that may be. For now I’ll walk with the kids and attempt to put the pieces together again. I will forever cherish every moment we shared. Thank you my Love.
