Joyce Cecelia Agnew

She was born to John and Johanna G. Bresnahan on February 10, 1942. She grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts where she met many lifelong friends and attended Quincy High School.

She married James (Jim) Edward Agnew of Milton, Massachusetts on July 20, 1963. They bought their first house in Weymouth, Massachusetts and soon after moved to Hanover, Massachusetts. They settled in Amherst, New Hampshire, with a summer cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee, and raised their three beautiful children, James, Sean, and Katie.

Jim and Joyce moved to Colorado in 1992 where they retired and spent time with their children and grandchildren.

Joyce was a hard worker and very ambitious. She had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age (egg route). One of her many accomplishments was opening Understatements, a fine garments store. The store’s success lead to six locations.

Joyce approached life with a fearless sense of adventure. She loved to take long car rides to explore the New England and Colorado landscape preferably in a convertible with her dog by her side. She was passionate about being at the ocean or driving her boat full throttle around Lake Winnipesaukee. She cherished her long weekend trips with her beloved sisters. Her greatest source of happiness was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren traveling, cooking together or just sitting around the kitchen table chatting and laughing. Her lively laugh and contagious smile will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents John and Gertrude, brother Jack, and two grandchildren Maggie and Mannix.

She is survived by her sisters Anne (IL), Joan (FL), Carol (MA). Sons James (Janet), Sean (Michelle) daughter Kathryn (Joseph) and nine grandchildren, Ellie, Benjamin, William, Hailey, Taveon, Miles, Garrett, Tyler, and Keagan, and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to our family and friends for the unconditional love and support. And especially to the entire Valley House staff in Castle Rock, Colorado and Suncrest Hospice caregivers (Kendra, Beth, and Katie) in Denver, Colorado that took tender care of Joyce the last few weeks. We will forever be grateful for all of you.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 2746 East 5th Street Castle Rock Colorado 80104. Visitation will be held Friday February 17, 2015 from 4pm-6 pm at St. Francis of Assisi.
