
She was born on May 11, 1932 in Mitchell, South Dakota. Her family later moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she attended high school. She later went on to attend the University of South Dakota, where she met James Baird. They later married on August 22, 1953.
From December 1953 to November 1955, James served in the U.S. Army while she lived in Sioux Falls with her parents and sister.
After his Service in Korea for the Army, James went to work for Western Geophysical, employed as a geophysicist in the oil and gas exploration industry. His work took them to many small and large towns across the entire western United States. Mary became an expert at packing up a household and moving to new places, where she always managed to make a temporary house into a home. Finally, in 1967, they settled in Houston, Texas, where Mary began her Volunteer career for the Church. She was essential to the Church for heading up various committees and ministries. She continued that ministry in all their moves to new cities. In 1979, they moved to Centennial, Colorado and lived there until James retired. Later in 2001, they moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado. While living in Fort Morgan, she attended Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Brush, Colorado. In 2018, James passed away and she moved to Castle Pines to be close to her daughter.
Mary devoted her life to being the best daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother she knew how to be. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with the family and enjoyed watching sports with her husband. She was a devout volunteer at the Catholic churches she attended and was a devoted friend to many.
Survivors include children, Kenneth John Baird and wife Marleah of Houston, Texas, Stacey Lynn Baird of Castle Rock, Colorado, grandchildren, Joshua James Baird and wife Lisa of Houston, Texas, Nathan Thomas Baird and wife Jessica also of Houston, and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be private in Castle Pines. There will be cremation after the funeral and the cremated remains will be inurned in Serenity Falls in Fort Morgan at a later date.
