Maureen “Mo” Ann White, age 68, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A proud Irish Catholic woman with a fierce spirit, Maureen bravely battled breast cancer with strength, dignity, and grace, never losing her sharp wit or her sparkle.
Maureen was born on August 1, 1956, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to James and Cleopha Burke. She attended Catholic school in Fort Dodge and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1974. She went on to earn a degree from Iowa Central Community College in the secretary program and began her professional career at Kersten Clinic before joining the Johnson Law Firm.
In 1976, Maureen married the love of her life, Marc White. Together they raised two children, daughter Jennifer (born 1978) and son Cory (born 1981). The White family moved to Castle Rock, Colorado, in 1988, where Maureen continued her legacy of service and kindness. She worked with the American Red Cross, the Douglas County School District, and most notably the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, where she became a beloved member of the team. Maureen joined DCSO in 1997 and served as the Patrol Administrative Assistant until her retirement in 2017.
Maureen was a trusted confidant, a mother figure to many, and a pillar of strength within her community. Known for her sass, quick wit, and unwavering honesty, she had a way of telling it like it was—always with a twinkle in her eye and a smile that could light up a room. She loved celebrating holidays, baking, laughing with friends and family, and caring for her beloved dog, Claire. Her warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her devoted husband Marc; daughter Jennifer (Josh); son Cory (Cheryl); sister Teresa Flattery (Joe); brothers Tim (Terri) Burke, Patrick (Joyce) Burke, and Mike (Cindy) Burke; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and the entire DCSO community.
Heaven gained one of the best. Maureen truly was a special person who made the world better just by being in it.
Please join us as we celebrate the life of Maureen.
