Moises “Moy” Sanchez Gonzales, 91, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed into eternal light on February 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on January 29, 1935, in Grant County, New Mexico.
Funeral services will be held on March 13, 2026, starting at 10am with a rosary and the mass to follow at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. We will host an open house Celebration of Life from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Patrick and Ada’s home in Castle Rock. In honor of Moy’s vibrant personality, the family kindly requests that guests wear their favorite baseball jersey or brightly colored clothing.
Moy is survived by his sons, Moises Gonzales, and his companion Susan Jamison, Patrick Gonzales and his wife Ada Gonzales; and his adored grandsons Jacob, Lucas, and Kory Gonzales.
Born to Juanita and Fidencio Gonzales, Moy was one of fourteen children. In Santa Rita, he worked at Kennecott Copper Mine but was best known for his love and exceptional talent for baseball. He played for the Santa Rita Miners and went on to coach his sons in Little League, proudly winning a major championship with them. His passion for the game continued throughout his life—whether coaching his grandsons or playing softball in a senior league after moving to Castle Rock.
After marrying Virginia “Jeannie” Gonzales, the couple settled in La Mirada, California, where they raised their sons surrounded by family and lifelong friends. To Moy, no one was ever a stranger. He was a warm, generous man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His joyful spirit filled every room—especially on weekends, when dancing, singing, and gatherings in the family garage were a regular tradition. One of his favorite songs to serenade Jeannie with was “From a Jack to a King”—even if it sometimes earned him a playful scolding.
In 1996, Moy and Jeannie relocated to Castle Rock, Colorado, where he continued to be deeply involved in his grandsons’ baseball journeys and quickly became known as the “cool grandfather” at every game. He cherished Dodger games with his famous binoculars, traveling to USC football games, tending to his yard, cheering on the Denver Broncos, and visiting Silver City, New Mexico to reconnect with family and lifelong friends.
Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Moy has been joyfully reunited with his beloved Jeannie.
Throughout his 91 years, Moy taught us to live simply—with kindness, love, and happiness—and to always sing and dance our way through life.
“Let your heart rest in the promise that we will be reunited again.”
