Peter Curt Wells, from Castle Rock, CO, passed away peacefully at his home and surrounded by family on the morning of August 26, 2025. Peter was born in Cambridge, MA on November 2, 1940, to Cyrus Curtis Wells and Barbara Holt Wells. When he was one year old, the family briefly moved to Gross Pointe, Michigan. They moved to the Denver area shortly thereafter.
Pete enjoyed his wonderful childhood in Denver growing up with his sister, Wendy and brother, Chris. He attended Bear Creek High School, where he excelled in cross country and track. Wendy introduced her good friend, Ceci, to her brother during high school – and that eventually led to a loving relationship that would last more than 50 years.
Pete entered Dartmouth in 1959 and graduated with a degree in English in 1963. He joined army ROTC in his senior year and was sent to Kansas for boot camp. He was promoted to the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps, sent to language school to master Spanish, and was assigned to a post in Panama to help protect the Panama Canal. After his service, Pete and Ceci married on July, 1, 1967 and moved to West Hartford, Connecticut, where both Pete and Ceci were teachers for several years. They moved back to Denver in 1970. Pete worked as a real estate broker for several years. On November 22, 1970, Pete and Ceci welcomed their first child, Jonathan (JD) and on March 24, 1972, a daughter, Debby, arrived. Later, he formed his own real estate investment and management partnership, The Charter Group, with his good friend, Larry Graves.
Pete and Ceci lived in their southwest Denver home for 31 years until their move to Castle Rock in 2001, where they remained until Ceci’s passing in April 2019. The first of three granddaughters came in 1999: Caitlin Wells. Jamie Wells arrived in 2002, Maia Macek in 2003, and finally a grandson, Mason Macek, in 2005. His greatest joys were running, reading, traveling with family, and participating in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He cheered them on in their various careers and endeavors, and especially all their sporting events.
Pete and Ceci joined St. Phillip and St. James Church in Denver in the early 70’s and attended regularly. Since their move to Castle Rock, they found a new community at New Hope Presbyterian. Underneath Pete’s quiet exterior, he was always a generous and loving soul, with a giving heart. He always made sure his family was supported and provided for.
Surviving Pete is his son, Jonathan and his wife Rebecca Wells of Castle Rock, CO, and daughter Debby and her husband Craig Macek of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Additionally, Pete is survived by his sibling, Wendy Oakes of Centennial, CO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jamie and Caitlin Wells and Maia and Mason Macek. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Barbara Wells, his brother, Christopher Wells, and his beloved wife, Cecilia Wells.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday September 4, 2025 at 10:00am at New Hope Community Church, 3737 New Hope Way, Castle Rock, CO 80109.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CU Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center Fund in memory of Peter Wells.
