Renny Charline Johnson

She is survived by her husband, Charles Johnson, their two daughters Esther Shafer and Rachel Swan along with their spouses Darryl Shafer and Alex Swan. She had the joy of seven grandchildren: Kate and Josh Stever, Devon and Celia Shafer, Nathanael Shafer, Seth Shafer, Abigail Shafer, Isaac Shafer and Micah Swan; and three great grand grandchildren: Roah and Luke Shafer, and Edith Stever. She is also survived by her brother Will Barber, and her sister Jeriel Quarles.

Born in Denver, CO, in December of 1944, Renny lived between Denver and Castle Rock all her life. However, she travelled the world through books or radio broadcasts.

She constantly read and listened to programs and was eager to share and recommend what she learned with family and friends.

Her favorite pastimes were sending and receiving mail, rarely missing an occasion to send a card or give a book with a long inscription inside the front cover. She also spent hours watching and feeding the birds outside her kitchen window.

She became a fan of texting, enjoying the opportunity to keep in touch with family who maybe didn’t enjoy three hour conversations as much as she did. She’d send endless jokes and questions for her grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews. Hearing their answers and receiving pictures in return would be the highlight of her day.

Renny lives on through her family in their love of creativity, learning, nature, and special occasions.

Rejoice with Jesus, Mom. You are free, whole, and redeemed. We’ll see you soon. And we’ll talk as long as you want.

A celebration of life service for Renny will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry St., CO 80104. Following the celebration of life service will be a cemetery committal service at 2:00 PM at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO.
