Robert Van Doubek “Bob” of Denver, age 68, passed away on June 12, 2022 in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was approaching the finish line on his bike in the 100-mile Elephant Rock Ride on June 5, 2022 in Douglas County, Colorado when he collapsed. This seems a fitting end to Bob’s adventurous life which was filled with long distance bike rides in the summers and weekly ski outings in the winters. No one loved Colorado biking and skiing more than Bob. Although his favorite place to ski was Vail, his treasured ski trip was to Chamonix, France.
Bob was born in Pratt, Kansas on June 10, 1954. He graduated from Pratt High School in 1972 and attended Pratt Community College. He graduated from college in Colorado and initially worked in the petroleum industry. Later, he had a long career in the construction industry, primarily as a fine finish carpenter.
He is survived by his sister, Carol Lewis (Larry) of Castle Pines, Colorado, his nephews Jim Butler (Amy) of Wichita, Tom Shorock (Kelly Peterson) of Lawrence, and Kent Holder (Kelsey Olivares) of Carlton, Kansas and his great-niece and nephew, Raquel and Robert Butler. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Ellen Doubek, and his sister and her husband, Nora and Don Shorock.
Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place later this summer in Colorado. Friends and loved ones can best remember Bob when enjoying their own future outdoor adventures.
Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.OlingerAndrews.com for the Doubek family.
