Craig Joseph Clary, age 64, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2026. Born in 1961 to Lily and William Clary, Craig was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his siblings Colleen (Bion), Chris, and Skip (Michelle); his nieces and nephews Jason (Stacy), Megan (Matt), Mallorie (Kyle), and Skippy (Anna); their families; and his many cherished friends.
Craig had a lifelong love of sports. A devoted Baltimore football and baseball fan - faithful to the Colts, Ravens, and Orioles - he could often be found at local sporting events, enthusiastically supporting family, friends, and their children. A talented athlete himself, Craig enjoyed skiing, beach volleyball, and golf. He also found deep joy in the ocean and spent countless treasured hours at the beach with those he loved.
Craig had a heart of gold and a rare generosity of spirit. He gave freely of his time, encouragement, and love, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In 1985, Craig began his full-time sports writing career with Patuxent Publishing as a writer and assistant sports editor for several community newspapers. Over a 40-year career, he earned multiple MDDC Awards and became a beloved presence in local sports. Craig especially valued the connections he made with young athletes, telling their stories with care, authenticity, and heart. He was, at his core, a true writer.
Craig was a proud graduate of Catonsville High School and Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College).
A celebration of Craig’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Special Olympics of Maryland.
