

Mr. George Henry Stiegler Jr., age 98, of Catonsville, Maryland passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was the son of the late George Stiegler, Sr., and Wilhelmina (nee Letmate) Stiegler, beloved husband of the late Lynn Cardie (nee Parker) Stiegler, beloved father of Willa S. Jacob and husband Bo, Carl E. Stiegler and wife Linda, Karl R. Magenhofer and wife Angie and Brian G. Stiegler and wife Ruth Marie, devoted grandfather of Jacy, Cary, Eric, Timothy, Laura, Brooklyn, Cardie and Adrian, devoted great grandfather of Nyall.
George graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy afterwards. He served aboard an LCT amphibious ship in the Philippines, was discharged in 1946, and completed his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from The Johns Hopkins University School of Engineering in 1949. During the Korean War he served in the Navy again, as an electronic technician 2nd class aboard the light cruiser USS Roanoke.
George joined the Defense Center of Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1953, where he engaged in the design and development of military radar systems, as well as air defense systems for several allied foreign countries. He retired in 1990 as the holder of two U.S. patents for radar microwave devices.
George was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Catonsville, MD. He sang in the senior choir for 60 years, played the piano for Sunday School, served on several boards and committees and served as president of the congregation for a time.
He enjoyed cruising with his wife, attending choral and orchestral concerts and organ recitals, and was a subscriber to Baltimore Symphony Orchestra concerts for over 20 seasons. Later in life, while still working, he earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in music from The Johns Hopkins University.
Friends may call at the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, 1630 Edmondson Ave., on Friday, February 14, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 15, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 929 Ingleside Ave., Catonsville, MD 21228
Private graveside services will be held at Loudon Park Cemetery.
