I too worked for Henry for over 30 years . His was the most consistently brilliant mind of any one I ever worked with . He was always patient when getting us to understand his technical insight. His approach to solving problems was always out of his head and was invariably substantiated by others. I hadn't seen him in a few years but I will miss the "war" stories he told with great relish.

My deepest sympathies to Henry's family.  I had an office next to Henry's for the last 3 of 4 years.  He was an amazing source of knowledge and I enjoyed my chats with the "Satellite Doctor" where we discussed NASA's history, Werner Von Braun, rescuing satellites, and our mutual sweet tooth.  I feel lucky to have known him.  Godspeed Henry Hoffman. Godspeed.

I owe a lot to Henry.  He brought me into NASA and I worked for him for many years.  He was a great mentor and inspiration for all those who worked for him.  He was truly the “satellite doctor” as one magazine article described his keen ability to analyze problems and find solutions, saving the government millions of dollars in rescued satellites.  His one guiding principle that I will always remember is his insistence on the law of conservation of momentum.  He loved to show “experts” that they were wrong by showing them that what they proposed violated that law.  He will be truly missed.

Henry was the "Go To" guy for spacecraft control and dynamics problems and helped save numerous programs at Goddard.
He was a kind, honorable man and a great friend.
He will be greatly missed.

Clay, Jan, and Cindy,
It's still so hard for me to believe.  Seems like Uncle Harry was just down here for the crab feast with Clay and looking so very good.  We send our prayers as you now move on through the next difficult days and months.  I smile as I think of your mom and dad now reunited.  I have so many pleasant memories of Sunday trips to your house to visit you, your folks, and Grandpops!  Please know we are thinking of you all.

I had the honor of working with Henry in 2006 on a paper that described his over six decades of work in guidance, navigation, and control.  His depth of knowledge, sharp wit, and sense of humor will be sorely missed in the aerospace community.  My sincerest condolences for your family.

Henry and I worked together at NASA for almost half a century.  Henry, in his field, was truly the best ever at Goddard Space Flight Center.  And, probably the best in the world!  Working with him was a delight and an honor.  Henry will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure of working with him and learning from him.  My condolences to the family.  Rest In Peace, Henry.

Clay, Jan, Cindy - I feel privileged to have known and worked with your father; he was always generous with his time to teach others, a first-rate engineer and someone one is grateful to have known in this life. I will miss his stories and his wisdom.

We are sorry for your loss, Cindy and Jim, and will keep you in our prayers in the coming weeks during this trying time. We read the NASA page giving a history of Mr. Hoffman, and he was truly an American hero, belonging to the greatest generation of our country. God Bless him, and God Bless your family. A giant of a man.  Extremely respected in the aerospace industry.  An expert in flight dynamics and guidance and controls systems.  Always helpful.  Always upbeat and positive.  We will miss him greatly.

Henry will be missed tremendously.  He took me in as a young engineer and taught me so much.  The family will be in my prayers.

"Expert" hardly scratches the surface of Henry's engineering skills. His congenial style and consistent accuracy made him for decades, an institution here at Goddard. I am honored to have known and worked under him. He will be sorely missed.

A friend and colleague for more than sixty years, Henry will always be a favorite part of my life. We were both Electronic Technicians Mates in the Navy and that linked our careers from the end of WWII. Goodby, Henry, I'll be seeing you. ..Bill

Henry was a giant in the field of spacecraft dynamics and taught me a lot. He was also a joy to be around. I'll miss him.
