Ruth Joyce Davis Hatton was born on April 23, 1928 to Aurora and Curtis Foard Davis. She had one brother, Curtis Wilbur, who she affectionately referred to as Bub Bub. She graduated from Western High School in 1946 and attended Baltimore Business College where she was trained as a secretary.
Joyce met her future husband, Henry Spencer Hatton, at a weekly dance held in Baltimore City. They were married on April 7, 1951 and after honeymooning in New York City, began their new life together in Catonsville, MD. Joyce and Henry were blessed with two children, Gregory Spencer and Jean Elizabeth.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and loved being a wife and mother.
During her lifetime, Joyce worked as a secretary, retail store clerk, school store manager and an American Greetings merchandiser.
Joyce loved the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Him as her Savior at an early age. She served the Lord in various capacities at Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church and later at Arlington Baptist Church. She demonstrated a servant’s heart by babysitting for friends and family and providing rides to those who couldn’t drive themselves to the doctor or store.
Her favorite activity was driving a car! She would take “Sunday” drives through Catonsville any time of the week to enjoy the houses, landscaping and people.
Throughout her life she kept in touch with many friends from high school including her best friend who she met in kindergarten. She enjoyed many telephone conversations and luncheons with those cherished friends.
Joyce’s smile and vivacious personality will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. She is survived by her son Gregory, daughter Jean, and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4th from 10-11AM at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228; where a funeral service will follow at 11AM. Interment in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
