Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edmund Joseph Mellendick, Jr., and her brother, Chuck Porter.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sons and their families. Her oldest son, Mark Mellendick, is married to Lani Hampson Mellendick. They are the parents of Amanda Mellendick Scalley (married to Daniel Scalley) and Kelly Mellendick. Her second son, Craig Mellendick, is married to Karen Holsey Mellendick. They are the parents of Megan Mellendick Marks (married to David Marks), Allison Mellendick Stirn (married to Joshua Stirn), Erin Mellendick, and Shannon Mellendick, who awaits her “Nan” in heaven. Kathy was also blessed to be the great-grandmother of Lilly Stirn. Her grandchildren, all girls after she raised three boys, held an especially cherished place in her heart. Her youngest son is Brian Mellendick.
Kathy grew up in Irvington in a close-knit Irish family and carried those roots proudly throughout her life. She later settled in Catonsville, where she and her husband purchased what she fondly described as a home “you could walk all the way around.” That house became a place of comfort, stability, and countless family memories, and she remained a devoted member of the Catonsville community for nearly sixty years.
At the center of Kathy’s life was her family. She worked hard and made many sacrifices to raise her three sons, putting them through school and college and helping set them on a strong path in life. She deeply loved her husband and treasured family traditions, including visits to Ocean City and Disney World.
Kathy lived modestly and found peace in simplicity. She was a devoted Catholic who attended Mass regularly, volunteered at church when she was able, and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. Even in her final days, she continued to worship as she could and received communion shortly before her passing.
She found joy in quiet pleasures: reading a good book, especially a James Patterson novel, sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee, working on challenging puzzles, sewing curtains and clothing for her family, listening to oldies music, and sharing lighthearted teasing and laughter with loved ones. She carried a quiet strength and a warm sense of humor.
She will be remembered for her perseverance, her sacrifices, her deep love for her family, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life. May she rest in peace.
