

Born October 16, 1943, in Winfield, KS to Augustus R Douthitt and Mary Lee Crawford, Bob lived a life marked by dedicated service, commitment to his family and a deep love for the outdoors.
Bob grew up in Leavenworth, KS, graduating from Leavenworth high school where he was Drum and Bugle Corps Commander/Drum Major in the ROTC and lettered in track. He earned the Eagle Scout Award (Troop 69) in 1960. He was a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church of Leavenworth.
After serving three years in the U.S. Army, he began his career with the US Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1966 as a correctional officer at USP, Leavenworth. His career took him to a number of correctional institutions and training centers throughout the United States where his expertise and leadership made lasting impacts on prison management and staff development.
After retiring from the BOP in 1997, he continued his passion for training and development by volunteering with SCORE Denver to mentor entrepreneurs who were looking for help in starting a business. He started his own training and consulting business to continue training law enforcement officials in local, state and federal agencies.
A lifelong learner, Bob earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications in 2002 from Regis University and completed his Master of Science in Management: organizational leadership, also from Regis University in 2007.
Bob married J. Diane Roberts of Wichita, KS in December 1962, and together they raised two children, Rob Douthitt and Lori Hough. Following their divorce, Bob married Sarah Sapp of Brunswick, GA, in April 1991. Bob and Sarah shared a love of the outdoors, running in road races along the southeast coast, camping and hiking in the North Georgia mountains and exploring Colorado’s magnificent high country.
Above all, Bob treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Sapp Douthitt; his children, Rob Douthitt (Wendy Guild) and Lori Hough (Don) of Merino, CO; a sister, Jan Hubbard (Gary) of Leavenworth, KS; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Douthitt (Jackie) of Leavenworth.
Bob will be remembered for his positive attitude, his generous spirit, his dedication to making a difference in the lives of others, and the love he gave to his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 26,2025, at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO.
A second visitation will be held in January on a date to be determined from 10 a.m. to noon at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth, KS. He will be interred at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 209 N. 7th St., Leavenworth, KS 66048 where Bob was baptized and confirmed.
