Barbara was a loyal wife to her husband John J. ("Jack") Russell, a loving mother to her sons Robert (Ellen), John (Annette) and Mark (Arlene) and an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren Derek, Justin, Tiffany, and Katie. She loved to laugh and share good times with family and friends. She was an active member in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority throughout her life beginning from her days at Denison University in Ohio. She was working as a flight attendant for Capital Airlines when she met her husband Jack (a pilot for Capital) over the Christmas holiday while they were snowed in at Pittsburgh. Their marriage lasted 59 years until Jack's passing in 2006.
She will always be remembered for her flawless appearance whenever she went out and her unconditional devotion to her sons for whom she would do anything. Her sons Bob, John and Mark will never forget her constant concern for their well being and the source of comfort she would selflessly provide to them throughout her life. She adored her grandchildren and played with them even up to her 90s. Her grandson Derek will fondly recall her running joke of "is that dandruff or did you just come from Alaska" and her grandson Justin will always remember their good natured debate where for more than sixteen years she told him "you said cowboy!". In her later years, she even played "hide and seek" with her youngest granddaughter Tiffany in the small apartment she lived in.
Barbara will be very much missed by the many family members and countless friends that she touched throughout her 91 years.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 28, 2013 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary.
Burial will follow at Ft. Logan National Cemetery after the visitation.
