

Clemens Merlin Nimrod passed away peacefully December 20, 2020 at home from complications of Covid-19. He was 95 years old. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, faith, and unwavering love of family.
Merlin was born February 8, 1925 on a farm outside of Wakefield, Nebraska to Clemens Joseph and Lillian Josephine Nimrod. Merlin was proud of his Wakefield roots.
Being drafted into the Navy in 1945 allowed him to tour the world while serving as a fireman on the naval cruiser USS Marblehead, and a store keeper on the destroyer USS Brinkley Bass. Merlin was stationed in Brazil and China. On VE Day Merlin celebrated in Times Square when Germany surrendered; passed through the Panama Canal when Japan surrendered; and finally, headed home, sailing underneath the Golden Gate Bridge. He served an additional seven years in the Naval Reserves.
After graduating from Wakefield High School in 1942, he attended National Business Training. Returning from military service, he completed his education under the GI Bill and received his BA in Accounting and Taxes in 1955. As a lifelong learner, Merlin continued taking a variety of tax and computer classes well into his eighties.
He married Margaret Henrietta Mahoney in 1948. They moved to Colorado in 1949. In Denver, they built a home where he would live for the next sixty years. After Margaret’s passing in 1969, he married Virginia Ann McPherson.
Merlin was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Nebraska. After he moved to Colorado in 1949, he became an early member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where he remained faithful and active until his passing. He participated in the Augustana Men’s Bowling League for over 45 years.
Merlin’s accounting expertise allowed him to hold positions in insurance, trucking, and manufacturing. He also established Nimrod Accounting and Tax Service, which he operated until he retired at the age of 88.
Merlin is survived by his daughters and their husbands Linda (Ken Martin), Kimberly (Michael McGann), Patricia (Michael Birks) and son and his wife Daniel (Becky). He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Margaret (1969) and second wife Virginia (2018); daughter Michele, granddaughter Jessica, and his three brothers.
A private grave site service was held December 29, 2020. The family is planning a celebration of his life in the summer of 2021.
