Following high school graduation, she attended Dickinson State College and graduated in 1958 with an Education degree. Darlyne then moved to Glendive, Montana, to teach in the elementary school system. She married Buford Rice in 1960. She also taught in Bozeman, Montana; Fargo, North Dakota; and Littleton, Colorado. In 1995, Darlyne earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of North Colorado.
Darlyne’s hobbies were sewing, reading, and traveling. Darlyne traveled together with Buford on many trips throughout the U.S. and overseas, as well as in a motorhome with their grandsons. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting dinners on holidays for family and extended family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator.
Darlyne was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in March. She was placed in hospice care on April 19th and passed away on April 29th with family at her side. She is survived by her husband Buford, son Robert, daughter Kristi, two brothers, one sister, and four grandchildren.
A graveside service for Darlyne will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 900 South Broadway, Suite 350, Denver, CO 80209.
