Donald J. Reeverts was born August 25, 1937 in Minnesota and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee in a loving Christian family. He spent his whole life knowing Jesus but his faith grew more real to him as he got involved with Young Life in high school.
He attended the University of Tennessee on a basketball scholarship and was one of their star players. He continued his involvement with Young Life, and when he graduated from Tennessee, went on to Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Once he graduated seminary, he moved to Denver to work for Young Life. He met the love of his life, Diane Dunsmoor, at Young Life’s Frontier Ranch. They were blessed with 61 very happy years of marriage and have 2 wonderful daughters - Diedre Findell and Ashley Weldon. Ashley is married to Sean and they have two great kids - Caleb and Lucy. Don is also survived by his sister Elaine and her family.
After working 15 years with Young Life, Don started Denver Leadership Foundation, a non-profit, bringing together business and faith based leaders to share a common vision for making a difference in the city. With DLF he helped to start Whiz Kids Tutoring, a ministry that provides one-to-one tutoring, positive mentoring and spiritual nurture to elementary students below the literacy and poverty lines. Whiz Kids began in 1990 and has impacted the lives of thousands of kids throughout the metro area. In 1987 The Colorado Prayer Luncheon was founded. Both ministries are still going strong today.
Don spent his life following Jesus and sharing that love with anyone that would listen. Near the end of his life he dealt with several health issues but that didn’t stop him from loving others and sharing the Word of God. In his final year of life God gave him visions of those who had gone before him, cheering him on from Heaven. Don went to be with his Heavenly Father on 1-26-2026. He was very loved and will be missed by so many.
There is a memorial service planned for Friday, February 13th 2026 at 10:30 am at Greenwood Community Church located at 5600 E Belleview Ave, Greenwood Village CO 80111.
