Frankie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of the Mission Hills Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Robert F. Babcock; her children, Robert W. Babcock, Ramona L. Conner, Gregory L. Babcock, and Gary E. Babcock; her grandchildren Lauren and Madelyn Babcock; and her sister, Elba Rine.
Her parents, Frank & Hazel Elliott lived on a farm near Lawton, Oklahoma. Frankie attended elementary school at Tipton, Oklahoma in 1935. At the age of eight Frankie was injured badly when she ran from the house to greet some visitors driving up. She ran into a single strand of barbed wire that was around the yard to keep cows out. It cut her mouth badly. She bore the scars for many years. Due to hard times in Oklahoma some of Frank’s relatives had moved to Oregon. Frankie’s folks decided to do the same with their 3 children, Frankie, Elba and little baby brother, Stanley Dale.
Frank found work as a road grader operator in the small town of Timber approximately 50 miles south of Portland. Timber was in a heavily forested area. They hadn’t been there long when a forest fire broke out nearby. They lost their home, saving only one mattress and the clothes on their backs. Her father soon found work in the coastal town of Garibaldi, Oregon where Frankie resumed school.
In 1945 the Elliott family moved to a ranch near Bieber, California where her father’s sisters lived. Frankie enrolled in the high school there. That’s where Bob met Frankie. It was love at first sight! We soon started dating and married in 1949. Two children, Rob & Ramona were born there. The family moved to Harrisonville, Missouri for a short time. Their son Greg was born in the nearby town of Butler on March 24, 1955. The family moved to Denver October 3 and rented a home in Englewood. Bob applied for a postal carrier position at the Englewood Post Office where he retired after 36 years. Frankie worked hard through the years caring for her family, babysitting and helping in their janitorial business cleaning office buildings. She would rise early every morning, fixing Bob’s breakfast and lunch, he was the envy of the postal workers who didn’t have a wife like that!
Bob and Frankie have been proud of all four of their hardworking and successful children.
Bob says “Our wonderful life together was the greatest blessing God provided all these 74 years. For the rest of my life, I will long to join my loving wife and our Lord Jesus in our new home in heaven.”
A memorial service for Frankie will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mission Hills Church, 620 Southpark Drive, Littleton, CO 80120, followed by a reception from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
