
George William Hefner (79yrs.) passed away on November 16, 2024, in Barcelona, Spain, from complications of pulmonary and heart issues. He resided in Panama City Beach, Florida. He was born in Morganfield, Kentucky, to Robert Lloyd Hefner and Gladys Marie (Threlkeld) Hefner on February 24, 1945. He grew up in Bradenton, Florida where he graduated from Manatee High School and continued on to University of Florida where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering while enjoying his time with the SAE fraternity. Upon graduation and completion of the advanced ROTC program, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After completing a few weeks training at Eglin AFB and commissioned as an officer, his first assignment was in Aviano AFB, Italy. In 1974 he separated from the Air Force and moved to Denver, Colorado where he first worked as a Field Engineer in the construction of the new Auraria College library. Upon completion he then worked for the Arnold Co. building condominiums and single-family solar homes in and around the Denver area.
George was married to Georgia Diane Hefner who predeceased him in 2017. He and Diane enjoyed many years river rafting, skiing and birding throughout the Rocky Mountains. They especially loved traveling with the Aviano Reunion Association to various regions of Italy, who will miss him dearly.
George is survived by a sister, Jacqueline Prine of Bel Air, Maryland, sister Jill Dohr of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, John & Linda Dickson of Virgin Islands and many nieces and nephews.
George was laid to rest in a private ceremony with his wife Diane on December 27, 2024 at Seven Stones Botanical Gardens Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 13, 2025 at 11:00 am at Seven Stones Botanical Gardens Cemetery located at 9635 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton, CO 80125.
