Henrietta Lesslie Kellogg, 83, died Saturday, October 8, 2011. She is survived by her daughters Virginia, Christine, Janet and Karen, and her grandchildren Sarah, Rebecca, Miriam, Raychel, Kelly and Max. Henrietta was born August 15, 1928, to Harold F. Lesslie and Pearl (A. Dembrun) Lesslie, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was married to Joseph C. Kellogg for more than 30 years.
Henrietta earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Southwestern University of Louisiana in 1949. After marrying Joseph C. Kellogg on September 12, 1949, they set up residence in St Paul, Minnesota. She worked for 3M Company, from 1949 through 1951, as the company’s first female cost accountant.
After Joe contracted polio in 1955, Henrietta helped facilitate his rehabilitation and re-entry into his engineering career. She subsequently focused most of her energy on raising their four daughters.
Henrietta was very involved in her daughter’s lives, particularly their Girl Scout activities. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts for nearly 30 years, in the St. Croix Valley (MN) and Mile High (CO) Councils of Girl Scouts. She served in many capacities, including member of the Board of Directors, Vice President, and Director at Large. Henrietta received the Special Appreciation Award from the Mile High Council of Girl Scouts in 1978.
As an active member of her community, Henrietta volunteered her time and energy to benefit many other organizations, often as President or Treasurer, including: the Denver Newcomers, the Denver Homesteaders and the Colorado Cancer Auxiliary. Throughout her children’s school years, she served on numerous PTA committees in the schools her daughters attended.
Henrietta’s religious beliefs and faith were always an important part of her life. During her years in Colorado she was an active and committed member of The Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and later The Grace Presbyterian Church.
As Henrietta’s daughters grew older and went on to college, Henrietta developed a thriving career in real estate. She got her start in real estate in the early 1970s, working as an agent Realtor with Polly Little, Inc., the first woman focused real estate firm in the Denver Metropolitan area. After much success with Polly Little, Henrietta earned her Broker’s License in 1975 and went on to management positions with a number of prominent local real estate firms, eventually co-owning Town Square, LTD.. Her dedication to her career earned Henrietta many accolades, including the Million Dollar Sales Club Award
During the late 1970s and the 1980s, Henrietta served as a member, and in many cases officer, of: the Women’s Council of Realtors, the South Suburban Board of Realtors and Professional Standards Committee. In 1988, Henrietta became an Associate Manager with Cherry Creek Realtors, where she worked until her retirement in 2003.
Henrietta had a variety of interests, but her favorite pastimes were reading, traveling and gardening. In high school she was an accomplished artist, but her busy family and professional life forced her to limit her artistic interests to observing other artists. Once retired she resumed creating art, taking classes in drawing and other mediums.
Henrietta was a life-long learner. She traveled extensively over the years, taking many of her trips with her best friend Mary. They made several trips to Europe and cruised to many locations. She rarely traveled to the same place twice, as each trip created a new learning experience.
Among her many qualities, Henrietta was a devoted friend, always helping when someone was in need. She also felt a responsibility to live up to your potential - it was always important to do your best. She will be remembered for her quiet life well lived.
Henrietta’s funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 2:00pm, at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Boulevard, Centennial, Colorado 80121.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial contributions be made in Henrietta's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman Street, Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203, 1.800.272.3900, www.alz.org/co
