

Attended Chote Cook and Green grade schools before moving west with the family in 1937. They lived on a ranch near Arbendale where he attended grade school and High school at Litchfield Park.
He joined the Army Air Core Cadet program at 17 and was a gunner on a B-29 crew when the Japanese surrendered. He had served in the Italian theater for an additional year of service. He then returned to finish High School, where he met his future wife Betty Jane Smelser. They were married in 1948 while Homer was working at the Naval Air Station and attended Phoenix College. He graduated from Phoenix College and moved to Denver where he obtained his BS and MBA degrees of the University of Denver and pursued additional studies at the University of Colorado.
He was a Past Master of George Washington Masonic Lodge #161 and a life member of the Colorado Consistory. He was also a President of the South Denver Kiwanis and past president of the DPMA and a member of Hope United Methodist Church.
During his career he worked for the City of Denver NJH, Stanley Avation, and the State of South Dakota. He sent his last 25 years with the State of Colorado and retired from CDOT.
He is a 44 year resident of Cherry Hills Village where he served 8years on the BOA during retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Jane Smelser Bruton, Son Kenneth Lee (Penny) of Perry Park, Daughter Patricia Anne Bruton Serreyn (David) of Plymouth MN and Daugher-in-law Sheryl Camps Bruton of Denver, Sister, Nelda Lee Lair of Arizona and Sister-in-law Joyce Bruton also of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Robert due to auto accident. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grand children.
Homer and Betty loved to travel and made more than a dozen cruises in addition to many trips by air and automobile. They literally travelled the world together.
